Woodwell

Area Summary
Woodwell is a picturesque little spot ¾ of a kilometer south of Silverdale Village. As well as the climbing, Woodwell is popular with the locals as a place to walk the dog, bird watch and just relax in general. As the name suggests the focal point of the area is an old stone well, where the people of Silverdale would come to wash their clothes many years ago. The well and spring supplying it still survive, although they are now more a home to the local wildlife population than a place to wash clothes.

The climbing itself consists of steep to overhanging limestone to the left of the well, a steep to vertical section to the right of the well, and of course the once popular buttresses of Woodwell O'er Road, unfortunately, however, this sector is now banned.

As well as a large concentration of mid to high Font graded problems, Woodwell is also the permanent residence of some of the hardest problems in the country courtesy of John Gaskins.

* Remember Woodwell O'ert Road is a banned sector.
